Aguada Fort was built by the Portuguese during seventeenth century. Main purpose of building this fort was to stop the Marathas and Dutch to attack Portuguese colony in Goa. But it was also used to fill water in ship that pass through the nearby area. In recent days most of part of the fort is destroyed but still you will be able to locate a stream which directs towards the sea. There was a water reservoir attached to the stream which you can still find inside the fort. Spend at least 1 hour to explore the fort in detail. Water reservoir is located on the upper part of the fort. Whereas lower part used to serve as ship station. Tourists find the lighthouse as the most interesting part of the fort. This lighthouse used to discharge light after every seven minutes. However, it became inactive in the year of 1976. Though the fort was built in 1612 but the lighthouse was built much later. It was built in the year of 1864.
Aguada fort is located on Sinquerim beach. Its sea facing side will give a view of Arabian sea from inside the fort. Inside the fort you can find aguada jail. Aguada fort is favorite among photographers. There is a paid parking service near the fort where you can easily park your vehicle. You have to pay 100rupees as parking charge.
